Gingerbread & Bird's custard

I had a chance to catch up with some friends in the UK via phone and e-mails.
We got on the subject of sweets.... and yes, I started craving British desserts. I stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some gingerbread and made a small batch of Bird's custard to smother it with!
I could really go for some treacle sponge just about now.....

Spring time

OMG! I've neglected this blog forever!!!
I've been otherwise distracted, and not cooking as much.... (excuses excuses)

Here's what I've been cooking from the bounties of the Hollywood Farmers Market.

Poached asparagus with a meyer lemon vinaigrette

A "mock" Hainanese Style Chicken (I loosely followed a recipe from a non-Hainanese source)There are several vendors that sell fresh chicken at HFM.

This birdie was probably clucking a couple of days before it became my dinner. Yum!

You know it's springtime when the vendors start selling English peas!!!!
I usually think carbonara, but good food can be made without the eggs or cream.
Freshly shelled peas, non-nitrate smoked bacon, diced white onions sauteed in a little olive oil.

On another day, I made a pasta with fava beans and spring onions.
(I wanted to use up the farfalla and penne pastas)
